I am very happy to be associated with Heartsong Yoga because of the ever-growing
community of dedicated yoga practitioners and students. I think we all realize what an
amazing gift yoga is to each one of us in this sometimes crazy, chaotic world of the 21st
century. In spite of the fact that yoga is thousands of years old, it still has such deep
roots that it continues to feed and sustain us today and for that I am tremendously
grateful.

I first began practicing yoga asanas in 1993 but my acquaintance with yoga goes back
to the mid-70ʼs. Thatʼs when I first began a meditation practice. It was inconsistent at
first but I experienced enough benefits to know that this was a path I needed to follow.
In spite of having two small children at home, I made the commitment to myself to
meditate regularly and it has made all the difference.

I also studied yoga in a more academic framework when I went back to college in my
40s. Bringing all my meditation, spirituality and personal study to bear, I made yoga the
center around which my college studies revolved. I brought the chakra system as a
model into a class on mind-mapping and personality archetypes. And I took the
opportunity to lead a meditation for my comparative religion class. I did this while
working full-time at a major corporation as a systems analyst. I eventually received my
degree in Human Studies with an emphasis in spirituality. Going back to college as an
adult helped me to solidify an understanding of dharma and my own sadhana, or
spiritual path in life. Understanding is one thing but living it is all still very much a work in
progress.

I am a very lucky person...I am married to my best friend. Our children are now grown adults and one of our daughters has two children of her own. Those two children are the joy of our lives and we dearly love being their grandparents. Luckily, they live nearby, so we are included in all their little experiences growing up, from school programs to soccer, swimming, camping and occasional sleep-overs and trips to the beach. It is really a joy to watch them becoming the unique individuals they are destined to be. I also love animals and have had many over the years but at this point in time, we only have one siamese cat and a cockatiel.

My husband and I love to travel, mostly to warm places with water and sand and palm trees, but also to places of our ancestry and places of curiosity, which just about covers the entire world. My most favorite though is India, the place on this planet where I feel the most at home. I have been to India many, many times and always feel just a little bit homesick when Iʼm not there. I have lead tour groups to India and attended the famous Kumbha Mela, the largest religious festival in the world. I was there in 2001 when the attendance on the most auspicious day reached 65 million people. I have also taken a holy bath in the sacred Ganges River in the ancient city of Benaras.

My life has been blessed many times over. It is full, very full, and sometimes very challenging...but that is how it should be, that is how we continue to grow. In one of my college papers, I wrote: “my life is not about getting somewhere, itʼs about filling in the holes, rounding off the sharp edges and making the hard parts soft.” So hereʼs to yoga...the process I use to live my life as fully and gracefully as I can manage.
