The Teacher Training Program includes:
Technical Skills
The program focuses on improving technical skills through the study of movement principals, anatomy, posture sequencing, etc.
Eligibility for 200-hour RYT Designation Through the Yoga Alliance
The Yoga Alliance is the main professional oversight organization that ensures a standard of education provided by yoga teacher training programs. A majority of venues hiring yoga teachers look for Yoga Alliance registration as a minimum requirement for hire.
Therapeutic Focus
Each weekend of training offers a particular therapeutic focus which prepares students to assist potential clients with particular therapeutic needs. These classes also assist teacher trainees to better understand the fundamentals of yoga postures as well as giving skills to work with the wide variety of physical capabilities in general yoga classes.
Philosophy and Pranayama Courses
Students study and discuss topics in traditional Yogic texts, and more contemporary sources to discover how yoga philosophy can be woven into day-to-day life and promote a well-rounded yogic practice.
Teaching Skills
Classes also focus on teaching skills to ensure trainees develop knowledge and have practice in the art of teaching, including creating an inspiring class, use of language for skillful instruction, adjusting, demonstrating etc. Trainees also get plenty of practice implementing these skills within the program.
Three-Day Retreat and Visiting Teacher Workshop
The program includes two opportunities for students to be immersed in yoga practice both to expand their own practice and to better develop their teaching skill. A full weekend with a nationally recognized instructor and a three-day residential retreat with the program trainers offers an additional layer to the study encouraged by the monthly sessions.
Private Lessons
Individual study and practice is an important part of a teacher’s development and the HSY program offers each trainee to participate in 3 private lessons with HeartSong instructors during the course of their study in order to work on individual goals.
